Tomb of Pir Shaikh Hamid Khadir

Vijayapura
Tombs

In the south-west corner of the city, nearly four hundred yards (approx. 365 m) west of the tomb of Ali Adil Shah I is a mausoleum which covers the remains of a local saint Hazarat Shaik Hamid Khadri, this incomplete tomb was built by Fatima Sultana, window (?) of Ali Adil Shah. As per the epigraphic record, it is dated in the year A.H. 970 (1562 CE). Before completion of the tomb she must have died, hence the tomb remained unfinished. The tomb is well-designed one. It consists of a central sepulchral chamber surrounded by veranda or side aisles. There is a lofty dome, the inner of which is fluted.
